A week of highs, lows and unexpected plot twists

This week has been… a lot. A proper rollercoaster of emotions, the kind that leaves you laughing, sighing, and muttering “really?” at the universe in equal measure.

It started on a high: on Monday I quietly posted a set of coasters to my private Facebook account, just to test the waters and see how people reacted. Thankfully, the response was wonderfully positive — a little confidence boost I didn’t realise I needed.

Then came Tuesday, which was my birthday. Somehow I’ve reached the grand age of 53, which feels both surreal and oddly empowering. Another year of creativity, learning, and making things with my hands — I’ll take it.

And then… today happened.

My Sculpfun S9 laser cutter decided to give up the ghost. Completely died. And yes, this was literally right after I paid for the full licence of my laser cutting software. The timing could not have been more dramatic if it tried. So for now, all the laser‑cutting projects — and the shiny new sections planned for www.lifeinshadows.com and my Etsy shop, lifeinshadowsart — have to sit quietly in the wings while I wait for the humans behind the chatbot to get back to me. Fingers crossed they can help, or send a replacement part… or a whole new machine if the universe is feeling generous.

But it’s not all doom and gloom. In true “maker” fashion, I’ve already pivoted. I’ve ordered some resin, so there may be a few new little creations appearing soon — different medium, same love and intention.

So keep your fingers crossed that my laser cutter rises from the ashes.
Until then, I’ll keep creating in whatever way I can.

See you all soon,
Annette
